LTFRB summons JoyRide PH over viral harassment incident

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has issued a show cause order to motorcycle taxi platform JoyRide PH following a viral video depicting a rider allegedly sexually harassing a female passenger. Acting LTFRB Chairman Greg Pua Jr. demanded an explanation as to why the platform’s authority to operate should not be suspended or cancelled.

The incident involved a ride from San Mateo, Rizal, to Cubao, Quezon City, during which the passenger captured the alleged harassment on video. The LTFRB is investigating whether the platform failed to properly vet its riders and has directed JoyRide to ensure the rider’s presence at a hearing scheduled for October 6. These regulatory actions are separate from potential legal proceedings by the Philippine National Police.

In a separate but related report of passenger distress, authorities in General Santos City have launched an investigation into a viral tricycle incident. A female passenger reported being subjected to intimidation, personal questioning, and alleged sexual harassment by a driver. The passenger described an unsettling experience where the driver made threatening remarks and behaved inappropriately, prompting calls for increased accountability in public transportation.
