Lütisburg Collision: 42‑Year‑Old Driver Fleeing Declared Unfit
On the night of 20 July 2026, a traffic incident unfolded on the H16 highway near Neugonzenbach, close to Lütisburg Station in the Swiss canton of St. Gallen. A 42‑year‑old driver entered the on‑coming lane and brushed the vehicle of a 50‑year‑old man travelling from Bütschwil toward Wil.
After the side‑collision, the 42‑year‑old continued driving without stopping. Police were alerted at about 23:30, and after an investigation the driver was located at his home a few hours later. Authorities classified him as unfit to drive, seized his driving licence, and ordered blood and urine tests. The accident caused approximately 2,000 Swiss francs in property damage.
