LTO issues show cause order after fire truck scrapes double-parked car

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued a show cause order to the owner of a sedan that was scraped by a Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) truck in Makati. The incident occurred when the BFP vehicle was responding to a fire in Barangay Bangkal.

A viral video shows the fire truck attempting to maneuver past the double-parked sedan, resulting in metal-on-metal contact. The LTO has cited the vehicle owner for allegations of parking in prohibited places and obstruction of traffic. As part of the order, the owner must appear before the agency, provide a statement, and surrender their driver’s license for a 90-day preventive suspension.

While the sedan owner reportedly requested compensation from the BFP for vehicle damages, the bureau denied the request, noting that the vehicle was illegally parked and obstructed emergency responders. LTO chief Markus Lacanilao emphasized that every second is critical for fire officers and that road violations should not delay emergency responses.
