Lu Huihuang completes four-and-a-half-year prison sentence

Lu Huihuang, a human rights defender from Guangxi, has completed a four-and-a-half-year prison sentence. Lu, a freelance writer and activist, had previously been imprisoned for two and a half years in 2020 for ‘picking quarrels and provoking trouble’ after publishing articles regarding political reform, labor rights, and criticisms of the government.

Lu was re-arrested in February 2022 following calls for a thorough investigation into the ‘chained woman’ case in Xuzhou. He was subsequently sentenced to four years and six months for ‘inciting subversion of state power.’
