Lưu Minh Chiến charged with murder after stabbing lover in Hanoi

The Hanoi People's Procuracy has filed a murder charge against 22‑year‑old Lưu Minh Chiến, a resident of Nam Thành village, Hàm Thuận Nam commune, Lâm Đồng province. After meeting Nguyễn Thị N., a married woman living in Hòa Lạc, Hanoi, through Facebook, Chiến traveled by train from Lâm Đồng to Hanoi in late October 2025. He arrived at N.'s home, locked the bedroom door and, when she refused to leave her husband, attacked her with a metal knife, delivering multiple wounds to the head, chest, neck, shoulders, arms, legs and jaw. The victim survived after emergency treatment but suffered a loss of about 77 % of her health.

Chiến then attempted suicide by drinking two bottles of pesticide he had purchased on the way to the house. He experienced severe abdominal pain and vomited, surviving the attempt. The indictment cites Article 123, clause 1, point n of the Penal Code. Earlier, in August 2024, Chiến had been investigated for a separate offense involving the consumption of property obtained through another crime, but that case was suspended.

The victim is seeking compensation of VND 1 billion, which Chiến has not yet paid.
