Lu y Pau: New Argentine comedy-thriller explores friendship and crime

The Argentine film ‘Lu y Pau’, a black comedy and thriller directed and written by Nicanor Loreti, has recently been released. Starring Jazmín Stuart and Lorena Vega, the story follows two lifelong friends who embark on a desperate plan to raise $30,000 to save a family member from a lengthy prison sentence.

The plot involves the protagonists attempting to rob three financial institutions in a single day to fund a bribe for a prosecutor. Filmed in the town of Puerto Esperanza, Misiones, the production utilized a local crew and focused on themes of loyalty, friendship, and the consequences of criminal decisions.

Director Nicanor Loreti noted that the project originated as a short film concept during the COVID-19 pandemic, which he eventually expanded into a full feature. The film explores strong bonds—whether through blood or long-standing friendship—as characters navigate absurd and high-stakes situations.
