Luanda Biennial addresses African water governance and peace
The fourth edition of the Luanda Biennial — a Pan-African Forum for the Culture of Peace and Non-Violence — is currently taking place at the Palace of Conventions in Luanda, Angola. Held under the auspices of UNESCO and the African Union, the forum focuses on strengthening water governance in Africa as a tool for conflict prevention, mediation, and resolution.
Key discussions have centered on the strategic importance of water resources, with Democratic Republic of the Congo President Félix Tshisekedi emphasizing the need to balance regional cooperation with national sovereignty over water resources, such as the Congo River. Other participants have highlighted the importance of inclusive governance, intergenerational dialogue, and the role of economic and social policies in fostering peace between states.
The event brings together diverse representatives, including officials from Chad, South Africa, Congo, and Ivory Coast, to promote sustainable development and security through intercultural dialogue and collective African approaches to shared challenges.
