Luanda Biennial to focus on water governance for conflict prevention

The 4th edition of the Luanda Biennial, a Pan-African Forum for a Culture of Peace and Non-Violence, is scheduled to take place on October 22 and 23 at the Luanda Convention Palace in Angola. Organized by Angola in partnership with the African Union and UNESCO, this year's event focuses on water governance as a tool for conflict prevention, mediation, and resolution.

Participants, including heads of state, government officials, specialists, and youth leaders, will discuss how water management impacts peace, security, and sustainable development across Africa. The forum aims to promote 'water diplomacy' and transboundary cooperation, viewing water as a medium for dialogue rather than a source of dispute. This focus is heightened by challenges such as climate change, demographic growth, and increasing pressure on natural resources.

The program includes four reflection panels covering political, social, environmental, scientific, and economic dimensions of water governance, alongside a High-Level Intergenerational Dialogue.
