Luanda taxi operators demand consultation on passenger stop changes

Taxi operators in Luanda, Angola, are calling for greater involvement in the decision-making process regarding passenger pick-up and drop-off points. António Freitas, president of the Cooperativa de Taxistas e Motociclistas Freitas (CTMF), expressed concerns during a recent workshop, noting that recent changes to stops, such as in Vila de Viana, were implemented without consulting transport associations.

Beyond the relocation of stops, drivers are raising several other grievances, including the lack of organized terminals, delays in issuing professional licenses, and the absence of social security mechanisms for workers. The industry is currently facing pressure from economists to formalize and professionalize the sector due to its significant role in urban mobility and the national economy.
