Luar presents Summer 2027 collection at New York Fashion Week

Designer Raul Lopez presented the Luar Summer 2027 collection during New York Fashion Week, held near the Queens Museum. The collection explores themes of colonization and identity by blending Renaissance-era aristocratic elements with queer street style.

Lopez utilized historical references to Christopher Columbus and Christopher Street to create a narrative centered on his Dominican heritage and experiences as a gay Latino man. The aesthetic combines 15th and 16th-century nobility styles—such as brocade blazers, puffed sleeves, lace, and velvet—with contemporary queer and streetwear codes, including leather jackets, cut-out swimsuits, and feathered pieces.

Materiality played a key role in the presentation, featuring silks, jacquards, and custom prints of cocoa fruit photographed by the designer in the Dominican Republic.
