Lubartów municipality shortens office hours amid heatwave

The mayor of Lubartów signed a decree that, from 26 June to 31 August, municipal offices will close at 14:00 on days when indoor temperatures exceed 28 °C. The measure, a response to a persistent heatwave, is legal under Polish labour law and mirrors similar actions taken by other institutions across the country.

The announcement sparked a wave of online comments. Residents used the notice to question why many other workers – such as construction crews, road workers, farmers, truck drivers, bakers, nurses and shop staff – do not receive comparable reductions in working hours despite facing even higher temperatures. The discussion highlighted broader concerns about heat‑related labour conditions in Poland.
