Lubin reports rising number of centenarians amid national demographic shift

The number of centenarians in Lubin is rising, with nine residents currently aged 100 or older. The oldest individuals in the city are 103 years old, having been born in 1923.

This local trend reflects a broader demographic shift in Poland. According to Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) data, there are now approximately 4,261 centenarians in the country, a significant increase from roughly 1,900 in 2018. Regionally, the Mazovian Voivodeship has the highest number of centenarians with 736, followed by Silesian and Lower Silesian provinces.

In Poland, individuals who reach the age of 100 are eligible for a monthly honorary benefit. As of 2025, this payment amounts to 6,938.92 PLN gross. The benefit is paid automatically to Polish citizens who are already receiving a pension or disability benefit. For those not receiving such benefits, a formal application must be submitted to ZUS, provided they meet specific residency and citizenship requirements.
