Lublin to commemorate 89th anniversary of NKVD genocide of Poles
Commemorative ceremonies will be held in Lublin on Tuesday, August 11, to mark the 89th anniversary of the genocide of Poles by the NKVD in the Soviet Union between 1937 and 1938.
The event aims to honor more than 110,000 citizens who fell victim to the so-called ‘NKVD Polish Operation,’ described as one of the bloodiest episodes of Soviet terror against the Polish nation. The gathering is scheduled for 20:00 at the Mother Siberian monument located near the Culture Center on Peowiaków Street.
Organized by local patriotic and national groups, including the Lublin National Movement, the program includes speeches by historians and guests such as Professor Włodzimierz Osadczy and Rafał Mekler. The ceremony will conclude with the symbolic laying of flowers and the lighting of candles in memory of the victims.
