Luca Esposito murder elicits call for discretion from OttoChannel director

Luca Esposito, a sports opinion journalist for the regional TV channel OttoChannel in Campania, was killed. Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the crime.

Pierluigi Melillo, director of OttoChannel, said, “Sulla tragica e orribile fine di Luca ci auguriamo che ora cali un velo se non di silenzio almeno di corretta discrezione,” adding that social media had shown “the usual nasty malice.” He described Esposito as an outspoken figure who “always said what he thought,” even when it displeased others, and expressed hope that the incident would be treated with greater discretion.

The director called for an end to the harsh online commentary surrounding the murder and urged respect for the victim’s memory.
