Luca Guadagnino awarded Cartier Glory to the Filmmaker at Venice Biennale

Italian director and producer Luca Guadagnino has been named the recipient of the Cartier Glory to the Filmmaker prize at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival. The Biennale and Cartier announced that the award will be presented on 8 September 2026 in the Sala Casinò of the Palazzo del Casinò on the Lido, at 15:00, just before the out‑of‑competition screening of Guadagnino’s new documentary Joie de vivre, a 435‑minute (seven‑hour‑plus) film exploring the legacy of Bernardo Bertolucci.

Guadagnino said he was “honoured to receive the prize” and thanked the Biennale director Alberto Barbera for the recognition. Barbera praised Guadagnino’s “creative freedom” and his ability to work across genres while maintaining a distinctly Italian cinematic voice.
