Luca Guadagnino film Artificial dramatizes OpenAI leadership crisis

The upcoming film ‘Artificial’, directed by Luca Guadagnino, explores the history of OpenAI and its November 2023 leadership crisis, specifically the five-day period when CEO Sam Altman was fired and subsequently reinstated.

Andrew Garfield stars as Sam Altman, while Ike Barinholtz portrays Elon Musk. Barinholtz described his portrayal of Musk as a balance between a menacing presence within private rooms and an absurd figure from an outside perspective. The film’s narrative extends back to 2003, covering the research of Ilya Sutskever and Geoffrey Hinton before detailing the founding of OpenAI in 2015.

The cast includes Yura Borisov as Sutskever, Mark Rylance as Hinton, and Monica Barbaro as Mira Murati. The film is scheduled for release in US theaters on Christmas Day.
