Luca Guadagnino’s ‘Artificial’ receives PG-13 rating
Luca Guadagnino’s upcoming film, ‘Artificial’, has received a PG-13 rating from the Motion Picture Association, marking the director’s first feature film since 2009 to fall below an R rating. The rating is attributed to “some strong language.”
Starring Andrew Garfield as OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, the film dramatizes the corporate conflict and leadership upheaval at OpenAI in November 2023, during which Altman was briefly removed from his position before being reinstated. The ensemble cast includes Monica Barbaro as Mira Murati, Yura Borisov as Ilya Sutskever, and Ike Barinholtz as Elon Musk.
The production, which has a budget of $40 million, faced distribution shifts after Amazon MGM Studios withdrew from the project. Neon has since taken over distribution. While a wide release is not expected before early 2027, a limited December release may be considered to qualify the film for upcoming awards seasons.
