Artificial film starring Andrew Garfield to premiere at NYFF

Luca Guadagnino’s film ‘Artificial’ is set to have its world premiere at the 64th New York Film Festival on October 5, 2026, at Alice Tully Hall. The biographical drama stars Andrew Garfield as OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and explores the company’s 2023 leadership crisis, specifically the period when Altman was removed by the board and subsequently reinstated.

The production features a high-profile cast, including Monica Barbaro as Mira Murati, Yura Borisov as Ilya Sutskever, and Ike Barinholtz as Elon Musk. Other cast members include Mark Rylance, Jason Schwartzman, and Chris O’Dowd.

The film’s distribution history has been notable; Amazon MGM Studios originally developed the nearly $40 million project but stepped away following a major business agreement between Amazon and OpenAI. The film was subsequently acquired by Neon. In addition to its New York debut, the film is scheduled to screen as a Gala at the 70th BFI London Film Festival on October 11.
