Luca Hoek breaks Spanish record to finish fourth in 100m freestyle European final

At the European Aquatics Championships in Paris, 18-year-old Spanish swimmer Luca Hoek achieved a historic performance in the 100m freestyle. During the semifinals, Hoek broke his own Spanish national record with a time of 47.26 seconds, finishing second in his heat behind Romanian swimmer David Popovici.

In the final, Hoek secured fourth place with a time of 47.39 seconds. This result marks the best-ever placement for a Spanish swimmer in the 100m freestyle at a major championship. The podium was completed by David Popovici of Romania, who took gold with 46.56 seconds, Egor Kornev of Russia with silver at 46.54 seconds, and Kristof Milak of Hungary with bronze at 46.86 seconds.

Additionally, Spanish swimmer Hugo González successfully qualified for the 200m backstroke final after a strong recovery in the closing meters of his semifinal, finishing with a time of 1:55.75.
