Luca Marini struck by debris during Austrian Grand Prix

During the Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring, MotoGP rider Luca Marini was struck in the chest by debris flying at high speed. The object, identified as a blue wing component from Fabio Quartararo’s Yamaha, detached during the race and hit Marini near curve 4. Although the impact caused acute pain and a momentary loss of concentration, Marini managed to continue the race and finished in 14th place.

Following the incident, Honda announced that Joan Mir will skip the upcoming Japanese and Indonesian Grands Prix to undergo medical examinations for ongoing physical issues. As a result, Marini will serve as the primary representative for the official Honda team at the Motegi race, which is Honda’s home circuit. This comes at a transitional period for the Italian rider, who is scheduled to move to the Tech3 KTM team in 2027.
