Luca Zidane reflects on Algeria’s 2026 World Cup campaign
Algerian goalkeeper Luca Zidane has reflected on his experience competing in the 2026 World Cup, describing the tournament as a “wonderful experience” and the greatest event a footballer can participate in.
Despite the positive sentiment regarding the tournament, Zidane expressed disappointment over Algeria’s early exit. The team was eliminated in the round of 32 following a 2-0 defeat against Switzerland in Vancouver, Canada. Zidane noted that the squad had hoped to progress to more advanced stages of the competition.
Zidane also highlighted the difficulty of facing Argentina and Lionel Messi during the tournament, stating that playing against one of the greatest players in history is “extremely difficult.” The 28-year-old Leganes player, who previously used his mother’s surname, Fernandez, to maintain privacy during his childhood, is now shifting his focus to the upcoming club season in Spain.
