Universidad de Chile faces player transfer and fan unrest
Ahead of the 200th Superclásico between Universidad de Chile and Colo Colo, several significant developments are unfolding in Chilean football.
Midfielder Lucas Assadi is on the verge of transferring to Swedish club AIK Solna. Reports indicate that AIK may activate a release clause valued between $2.3 million and $3.5 million. While Assadi has expressed a desire to play in the upcoming derby, his participation remains uncertain depending on when the transfer is finalized. The move could make him the most expensive signing in AIK's history.
In a separate incident, Chilean police (Carabineros) arrested 76 Universidad de Chile supporters, including 43 minors, following a violent takeover of a public RED bus in Santiago. The group reportedly took control of the vehicle and some individuals were seen on the roof while in motion. Authorities also recovered three knives during the intervention.
On the pitch, Curicó Unido prepares for a Primera B match against Unión San Felipe at Estadio La Granja, facing multiple absences due to suspensions and physical injuries.
