Lucas Assadi transfers from Universidad de Chile to AIK Solna
Lucas Assadi, a 21-year-old midfielder from Universidad de Chile, has transferred to the Swedish club AIK Solna. The deal, which involves AIK exercising a release clause, is valued at approximately $2.3 to $2.4 million and secures the player for four seasons.
Assadi’s departure has sparked controversy because it occurs immediately before the 200th edition of the Superclásico against Colo Colo. Assadi addressed rumors suggesting he lacked interest in playing the match, stating, “It is false. I believe all players want to play those types of matches.” He explained that while he requested to play and travel on Monday, the agreement between the clubs required him to depart earlier.
While many fans expressed gratitude for his time at the club, some former players and supporters have criticized the timing and the move itself. Former defender Rafael Olarra noted that Assadi had only had six good months in four seasons and questioned if the Swedish league was the best destination for his career.
