Lucas Calodat compares Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 difficulty

Le Mans player Lucas Calodat has suggested that playing in Ligue 1 is less difficult than playing in Ligue 2. In an interview with L’Équipe, the 24-year-old defender explained that while Ligue 1 players possess high technical ability, the style of play is less of a physical struggle compared to the intensity of Ligue 2.

Calodat noted that Ligue 2 is characterized by heavy duels, physical battles, and closed matches, whereas Ligue 1 often provides more space and structured sequences of play. This environment appears to suit his profile as a fast wing-back.

The player's rise follows a period of professional uncertainty. After starting his career at Saint-Étienne and playing against Paris Saint-Germain, Calodat faced setbacks at Troyes and played in the National division. He admitted to past immaturity and a lack of work ethic during those periods, which led him to briefly consider retiring from football before his successful resurgence with Le Mans.
