Lucas Coenen wins MXGP Latvia opener as Tim Gajser finishes fifth

Belgian rider Lucas Coenen (KTM) secured victory in the first race of the Latvian round of the MXGP World Championship at Kegums, extending his lead in the overall standings to 379 points. Coenen overcame clutch problems but led from start to finish on the clay surface.

Yamaha’s Tim Gajser finished fifth, earning 16 points and remaining fourth in the championship with a total of 276 points. Slovenian compatriot Jan Pancar placed 14th, moving to 17th overall with 68 points. The podium was completed by Dutch riders Kay de Wolf in second and Jeffrey Herlings in third.

The results set the stage for the second race of the weekend, scheduled later on the same day.
