Lucas Cordalis decries chronic traffic and soaring rents on Mallorca

German Schlager singer Lucas Cordalis, who has lived on Mallorca for more than two decades with his wife Daniela Katzenberger and their daughter Sophia, appeared on the ZDF breakfast programme "Volle Kanne" to describe how the island has changed. He said that streets that were once free of congestion now endure continuous traffic jams from morning until evening. Cordalis linked the situation to a surge in property and rental prices that have made housing unaffordable for many local residents, forcing them to live elsewhere and commute to work. He added that the same market pressure has driven up housing costs in Palma and the island’s southwest, prompting repeated resident demonstrations. Cordalis also criticised the current music charts, noting a shift from lasting hits to short‑lived hype tracks. The comments highlight growing social tension on the Balearic island as tourism‑driven demand squeezes locals.
