Lucas do Rio Verde opens first specialized women's police station

A new Specialized Women’s Defense Police Station was inaugurated in Lucas do Rio Verde, Brazil, on Thursday, September 2. The opening was attended by Janice Ribeiro, the municipality’s first‑lady and secretary of Social Assistance and Housing, who highlighted the facility’s role in providing humane and dignified support for women victims of violence. The project was realized through cooperation among state and municipal governments, the Civil Police, the judiciary, the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the local bar association and other partners.

The station is intended to improve protection, prevention and assistance for women, shifting the response to gender‑based violence from a private matter to a public responsibility. Officials emphasized the importance of education, early respect for equality, and community involvement to reduce violence against women across the region.
