Lucas Murillo transferred to Bucaramanga for specialized heart evaluation

Lucas Francesco Murillo García, a seven-year-old boy from Cúcuta, has been transferred to the Fundación Cardiovascular de Colombia in Bucaramanga for specialized medical evaluation. Lucas suffers from hypoplastic left heart syndrome, a complex congenital heart condition that has required three previous open-heart surgeries and necessitates permanent oxygen use.

The transfer was initiated after a viral video of Lucas pleading for help reached President Abelardo De la Espriella, highlighting the family's year-long struggle to obtain medical authorizations from Nueva EPS. Following the President's intervention and instructions to Health Minister Ana María Vesga, Nueva EPS coordinated an aeromedical jet transfer to ensure the child's stability during transit.

Medical specialists at the Fundación Cardiovascular are currently conducting a series of high-complexity clinical studies and hemodynamic evaluations. These tests aim to determine Lucas's current health status and establish whether he is a candidate for an urgent heart transplant or requires alternative surgical interventions. The government and Nueva EPS have committed to ensuring the continuity of his specialized care throughout this process.
