Lucas González departs Deportes Tolima after historic season

Lucas González took charge of Colombia's Deportes Tolima in July 2025 and transformed the side into a competitive, ambitious squad. Within a year he guided the team to the BetPlay 2025‑II final, secured qualification for the 2026 Copa Libertadores and, in the continental tournament, advanced past the group stage to reach the round of 16 – a feat achieved only twice in four years.

During his 12‑month tenure the club recorded 31 victories in 63 matches and scored 79 goals, reviving fan optimism and a sense of identity. González’s departure has been described as a painful loss for supporters who felt he was building something lasting.
