Lucas Grinstein investigated for killing father with boiling oil

Lucas Grinstein, a 38-year-old French teacher, is under investigation for the aggravated homicide of his father, Daniel Grinstein, 76. The incident occurred in June 2025 at Grinstein's apartment in Buenos Aires after the victim arrived to assist his son during a mental health crisis.

According to judicial reconstructions and medical reports, Daniel Grinstein suffered burns to approximately 80% of his body caused by boiling oil and salt. He was treated at Hospital Rivadavia and later transferred to Sanatorio Agote, where he died 24 days later from septic shock and multi-organ failure. Medical staff noted the liquid used was so corrosive it irritated their eyes and damaged latex gloves.

Grinstein confessed to the act via WhatsApp messages to his mother and sister. In these communications, he attempted to implicate others, claiming a woman named Macarena helped facilitate the delivery of the oil. Following a period in Rio de Janeiro, Grinstein was extradited to Argentina. He is currently under the jurisdiction of Judge María Gloria Capanegra and Prosecutor Marcelo Solimine, with upcoming psychiatric evaluations to determine his mental capacity to stand trial.
