Lucas Herrington signs record $33m deal with Hull City

Australian defender Lucas Herrington has signed a five-year deal with Premier League side Hull City, moving from Major League Soccer club Colorado Rapids. The transfer is estimated to be worth approximately $33 million, which would set a new record for the highest transfer fee paid for an Australian footballer, surpassing Harry Souttar’s previous record.

The 18-year-old central defender, who has also represented the Socceroos at the World Cup, was previously a target for major European clubs including Barcelona and Liverpool. Reports indicate the deal includes a $15 million fixed fee with an additional $5 million in add-ons, while the Colorado Rapids secured a 15% sell-on clause.

Herrington is set to make his Premier League debut in Hull City’s opening fixture against Manchester United on August 22. He expressed that the move is a “dream come true” after years of following the league from Australia.
