Lucas Museum of Narrative Art opens in Los Angeles

The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art has officially opened to the public in Los Angeles' Exposition Park. Founded by George Lucas and Mellody Hobson, the museum represents the culmination of a nearly two-decade search for a permanent location that included cities such as Chicago and San Francisco.

The 300,000-square-foot facility, designed by architect Ma Yansong and engineered by Stantec Inc., features a futuristic design. Rather than focusing on the 'Star Wars' franchise, the museum's collection emphasizes narrative art, blending popular works with high artistic standards. The exhibits include diverse pieces ranging from illustrators and sketches to works by artists such as Frida Kahlo, Vincent Van Gogh, and Pablo Picasso.

Mellody Hobson and Tracey Bates serve in leadership roles, with Hobson co-chairing the board. The institution aims to celebrate the stories and myths that define human experience through various forms of visual storytelling.
