Lucas Rodríguez arrives in Quito to join Liga de Quito

Argentine footballer Lucas Rodríguez arrived in Quito on Thursday, August 27, 2026, to join Liga Deportiva Universitaria. The 29-year-old joins the club as a free agent following his recent tenure in Mexican football with Tijuana and Querétaro.

Rodríguez, nicknamed ‘Tití’, expressed his readiness to meet the high expectations of the club and its supporters. He noted that he accepted the offer immediately upon being contacted, citing the influence of coach Gustavo Álvarez. The player highlighted his versatility, stating he is capable of playing behind a striker, on the wings, or as an attacking midfielder.

His arrival follows the departure of Paraguayan player Rodney Redes, which allowed the club to utilize a foreign player slot. Rodríguez intends to undergo medical examinations before integrating with the squad to assist in upcoming competitions, including the Copa Libertadores.
