Lucas Spence hits three home runs to lead Astros over Athletics

Houston Astros rookie Lucas Spence delivered a historic performance to help the team secure a 7-5 victory over the Athletics in Sacramento. Spence, a 23-year-old undrafted center fielder, drove in five runs and hit three home runs in his 16th major league game.

Spence became the first player in Astros history to hit three or more home runs within his first 20 career games. He is also only the third player in MLB history to hit his first three career home runs in a single game. The win moves the Astros to a 79-80 record, placing them in first place in the American League West via a tiebreaker with three games remaining in the regular season.

Spence was recently called up from the taxi squad following an injury to Brice Matthews. His performance significantly impacts the Astros' pursuit of a postseason berth.
