Lucas Tomasi becomes first karting driver with Down syndrome to receive official license

Lucas Tomasi, a 19-year-old Argentine driver, has become the first person with Down syndrome to obtain an official medical and sporting license to compete in karting. This achievement marks a significant milestone in motorsport, overcoming previous bureaucratic and conceptual barriers within both national and international racing authorities.

Tomasi's interest in racing developed through his exposure to the environment via his father, Mauricio Tomasi, a veteran sports journalist and racing commentator. Despite having no prior experience driving vehicles and facing challenges with physical balance in daily activities like riding a bicycle, Tomasi demonstrated unexpected precision on the track. His father attributes much of his driving instinct and reflexes to his experience playing racing video games.
