Lucas Tomasiti becomes first Argentine karting driver with Down syndrome

Lucas Tomasiti, a young man from Tandil with Down syndrome, has become the first Argentine driver with this condition to obtain a national racing license for official karting competitions.

After developing his driving skills through video games, Tomasiti underwent an unprecedented evaluation process by the Comisión Deportiva Automovilística (CDA). Because there were no prior precedents, the process required extensive medical and psychological assessments, including cervical X-rays, echocardiograms, and ophthalmological exams.

In December 2025, Tomasiti participated in a clinical session at the Autódromo de Buenos Aires, where he was observed by Fernando Croceri of the Asociación Argentina de Volantes. Following the successful completion of all requirements, his national medical license was granted in June 2026. He currently competes in the Kart Plus school category in Zárate with the Ibarra Competición team.
