Lucas Torreira attacker sentenced in Istanbul court

A court in Istanbul has sentenced Yusuf Y. following a physical assault and series of threats against Galatasaray footballer Lucas Torreira. The incident occurred on May 12, 2026, in the Beyoğlu district after Torreira had finished playing tennis.

According to court proceedings, Yusuf Y. approached Torreira and punched him. The Istanbul Criminal Court of First Instance found Yusuf Y. guilty of continuous threat and simple injury. He received a six-month prison sentence for the threats and a judicial fine of 10,000 Turkish Lira for the assault. The court decided to suspend the announcement of the verdict for both offenses.

Evidence presented during the trial included social media posts by Yusuf Y. that contained death threats and expressed intentions to harm the player. Legal proceedings against Torreira's driver, Eray S., who intervened during the altercation, were dropped after Yusuf Y. withdrew his complaint.
