Lucasfilm reportedly seeking developer for new Star Wars Battlefront game
Lucasfilm is reportedly searching for a development partner to create a follow-up to the Star Wars Battlefront series. According to rumors originating from Electronic Gaming Monthly and discussed by industry insider Jeff Grubb, Disney is interested in continuing the popular shooter franchise following the sustained popularity of Star Wars Battlefront II.
Several major studios have been named as potential candidates. Reports suggest that EA DICE, the developer behind the previous entries, and Bungie, known for Destiny, are being considered. Additionally, Joe Brammer, CEO of Bulkhead, has claimed to have heard that DICE and Respawn Entertainment may already be working on a new installment, though these claims remain unconfirmed by Lucasfilm, Disney, or EA.
In a separate strategic move, Lucasfilm Games vice-president Douglas Reilly stated that the division is becoming more open to pitches from smaller, independent studios. This shift follows the success of titles like Star Wars: Zero Company and Star Wars: Galactic Racer, as the company seeks to expand the franchise across various genres and scales, including AA projects, alongside major AAA productions.
