Lucca Comics & Games documentary to stream on HBO Max

The documentary ‘I Love Lucca Comics & Games’, directed by Manlio Castagna, will be available exclusively on HBO Max starting September 17, 2026. The film explores the community, stories, and legacy of Lucca Comics & Games, one of the world’s most significant international events dedicated to pop culture.

Rather than focusing solely on the festival itself, the documentary highlights the relationship between the city of Lucca, its visitors, and the culture of the imaginary. It features voices from authors, publishers, artists, and enthusiasts, including ‘VisitAutori’—dedicated visitors who have developed a deep, long-term connection with the event.

The streaming release coincides with the 60th anniversary of the festival in 2026. The documentary follows the festival’s evolution from its beginnings in 1966 into a massive phenomenon that attracts over 300,000 visitors, 900 guests, and 600 exhibitors annually.
