Lucca commemorates Don Aldo Mei on 82nd anniversary of Nazi execution

Lucca and surrounding municipalities will mark the 82nd anniversary of the execution of Don Aldo Mei, a priest shot by Nazi forces on 4 August 1944. The commemorations begin on Sunday, 2 August, with a Mass at Santa Maria Forisportam, followed by a second service in Ruota, Capannori, and a flower‑laying at the memorial monument.

Additional events include a historic‑walk organized by the Presepe Vivo di Ruota, an exhibition titled “La forza dell’amore: testimone fino al sangue” opening on 3 August in Capannori’s municipal hall, and a peace‑path walk from Fiano to Monte Acuto. The program culminates on Tuesday, 4 August, with the unveiling of a mural at a local kindergarten, a Mass celebrated by Archbishop Paolo Giulietti in Fiano, and an evening “Passeggiata della Memoria” through Lucca’s historic sites.

The activities are sponsored by the Province of Lucca, the Archdiocese of Lucca, the municipalities of Lucca, Capannori and Pescaglia, and numerous local associations.
