Lucca Court orders father to pay damages after house fire
The Court of Lucca has ordered a 58-year-old man to pay approximately 24,000 euros in damages, plus 5,000 euros in legal fees, following a fire at his son's home in Stazzema.
The incident occurred in late January 2022 when the father visited his son's residence to repair a stove. After replacing a component, he lit the stove to test it and also lit the fireplace to heat the house before leaving. An investigation determined that the fire, which caused significant damage to the ground floor, first floor, and furnishings, likely originated from either the stove or the fireplace.
The case arose after an insurance company refused to cover the damages, arguing that the lack of third-party status between the responsible party and the victim invalidated the claim. Consequently, the son sued his father for compensation.
