Lucca Hospital Launches Healthy Menu Initiative

The Azienda USL Toscana Nord Ovest began the "La salute si difende anche a tavola" project on 27 July 2026 at the San Luca Hospital in Lucca. The programme, carried out together with the hospital’s catering firm Pellegrini, aims to improve nutrition for staff, patients and visitors by introducing healthier food and drink options.

Key changes include a dedicated yogurt‑and‑fresh‑fruit machine, the removal of sugary beverages, new dispensers offering still and sparkling water, sugar‑free iced tea, and ready‑to‑eat poke bowls prepared to high standards. The initiative also encourages the use of personal bottles and promotes broader lifestyle habits that reduce obesity, type‑2 diabetes and cardiovascular risk. The model is intended to be replicated across other ASL facilities.

The effort reflects the ASL’s long‑standing strategic focus on healthy eating and preventive health, linking clinical care with organisational responsibility for wellbeing.
