Italian towns contest stadium funding and renovation projects

The municipality of Ariccia was excluded from the national "Sport e Periferie 2026" programme, losing an expected €1 million for the refurbishment of the A. Menicocci athletics track despite its status as a European Sports City.

In Pesaro, officials highlighted a near‑maximum technical score for the same funding call but explained that the town missed out because of socio‑economic criteria and prior receipt of funds. The council rejected a proposal for a new €20 million stadium, deeming such a project financially irresponsible without solid guarantees.

Lucca’s Porta Elisa stadium, owned by the public, is the subject of a renovation plan promoted by President Brunori, who says the facility is in poor condition and requires public‑sector investment. Local authorities have voiced support while noting internal disagreements.

Palermo’s Renzo Barbera stadium is awaiting a municipal council decision on a new agreement, a step linked to the city’s deadline to submit a bid for Euro 2032. Officials cited technical observations that need amendment before the vote.

In Castellammare di Stabia, the football club Juve Stabia is preparing a ticket subscription campaign for the 2026‑27 season, targeting more than 3 000 season‑ticket holders.
