Lucca municipalities begin signature collection for 1% wealth tax

A signature collection campaign for the ‘1% equo’ popular initiative law has expanded to municipal public relations offices (URP) in the province of Lucca, including Capannori, Porcari, Altopascio, Borgo a Mozzano, Coreglia Antelminelli, Barga, Bagni di Lucca, and Castelnuovo Garfagnana.

Promoted by the Partito della Rifondazione Comunista and the Comitato 1% Equo, the proposal seeks to introduce a 1% tax on assets exceeding 2 million euros, with a total exemption for primary residences. Organizers estimate the measure could recover approximately 26 billion euros.

The funds are intended for structural public investments, specifically targeting healthcare, social housing, welfare, and the improvement of essential public services. Having already secured 65,000 online signatures, the campaign aims to reach 100,000 signatures by November 15.
