Lucca prosecutors investigate four doctors after patient death

The Lucca Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation into the death of 88-year-old Valeria Pollacchi, who died one day after undergoing surgery for a fractured femur at San Luca Hospital. Four doctors—two orthopedists and two anesthesiologists—have been placed under investigation for suspected manslaughter in a healthcare context.

Authorities are working to reconstruct the entire sequence of care, from the patient's initial arrival at the emergency room following a fall at home to the surgical intervention and subsequent decline. Investigators are currently reviewing medical documentation and gathering information from the family, specifically regarding the timing of the patient's initial evaluation. An autopsy has been ordered to clarify the exact cause of death and determine if medical negligence played a role.
