Lucera hosts 43rd Torneo delle Chiavi medieval festival
The 43rd edition of the Torneo delle Chiavi has commenced in Lucera, Italy, running until August 13. The event takes place between the Fortezza Svevo-Angioina and the Roman-Augustean Amphitheatre, blending folklore, history, and local tradition.
The festivities began on August 7 with the opening of a Medieval Village located within the Fortezza Svevo-Angioina. This immersive installation features historical camps, ancient trades, educational stalls, music, dances, and combat reenactments designed to recreate the atmosphere of medieval Lucera.
Key highlights of the opening included a falconry show and the traditional Parade of the Ladies of the Five Historical Gates. The evening concluded with the first of three historical reenactment episodes titled “Corradino e la rivolta nel regno,” which focuses on the historical period of 1268-1269 and the Angevin siege of Lucera.
