Luchino Visconti honored through Milan exhibition and Basilicata theater project

Various cultural initiatives are honoring the legacy of director Luchino Visconti. In Milan, Teatro alla Scala is hosting a celebratory exhibition titled ‘Grazie a Luchino Visconti’ at its theatrical museum until March 31. Curated by Giovanni Agosti, the exhibition uses books, documents, sketches, costumes, and props to explore Visconti’s intense relationship with the opera house and his revolutionary approach to opera direction.

In southern Italy, a special theatrical project titled ‘La Forma dello Sguardo’ is scheduled for 2026. Supported by the Ministry of Culture and the Basilicata Region, the project explores the deep connection between Visconti and the Basilicata territory, specifically referencing his masterpiece ‘Rocco e i suoi fratelli’. The program will include productions such as ‘ROCCO (tra Visconti) E il SUD’ and will examine themes of migration and cultural heritage through the lens of the director’s historical visits and photography of the Lucanian landscape.
