Lucia Witbooi calls for investment in Namibia's creative economy

The second Hardap Regional Arts and Culture Festival has officially opened in Mariental, Namibia. Under the theme ‘Rooted in Heritage, Driven by Creativity, Inspiring our Future’, the event brought together artists, cultural practitioners, and community members to celebrate the region's diverse heritage.

During her keynote address, Vice President Lucia Witbooi called for increased investment in the arts, culture, and heritage sectors. She emphasized that these industries are vital for economic development, contributing to employment, entrepreneurship, and tourism. Witbooi encouraged young people to view their creative talents as potential professions and businesses.

Witbooi also highlighted Namibia’s commitment to preserving heritage, noting international recognitions such as Twyfelfontein and the Namib Sand Sea. She described culture as a living foundation for the nation's future and a tool for social cohesion. Hardap Governor Riaan McNab and Director of Arts M'Kariko Amagulu also expressed support for the festival's role in empowering youth and preserving history.
