Lucian Mîndruță urges energy saving, sparks public backlash in Romania

Lucian Mîndruță posted on Facebook after the July 31 announcement of problems at the Cernavodă nuclear power plant, saying he had finished washing clothes, turned off the air‑conditioner and opened a window, urging "minimal solidarity" to save electricity. He wrote that the effort was for the country, not for individual politicians, and the post attracted about 4,500 messages.

Cultural entrepreneur Adrian Șoaiță analysed the comments on the post, reporting roughly 90 % negative, 6 % positive and 4 % neutral sentiment. Mîndruță later reiterated that no one had asked him to make the appeal, describing it as his own idea. Earlier, in March, he had praised Environment Minister Diana Buzoianu’s speech in parliament, noting his prior work providing training for her.

The reaction on social media was largely hostile toward the government, with many commenters dismissing the call for voluntary energy cuts.
