Luciana Aymar named ambassador for 2026 South American Games

Luciana Aymar, widely regarded as the greatest field hockey player in history, has been confirmed as an ambassador for the 2026 South American Games in Santa Fe, Argentina. The former national captain will participate in the opening ceremony at the Monumento a la Bandera in her hometown of Rosario.

Aymar expressed pride in the region's sporting potential and noted the importance of the infrastructure being developed for the games. She also ruled out taking on a coaching role in the near future, citing personal preferences regarding stress and patience.

In preparation for the same event, Ecuadorian speed skater María Loreto Arias shared her goals for the upcoming competition. Following a bronze medal at the 2022 Asunción games, Arias aims to improve her performance despite recovering from a knee operation in late 2024. She emphasized the resilience required for high-performance sports as she prepares to represent Ecuador in the speed skating events.
